Description
The dynamics of the host-donor relationship in transplants revolve around production by the graft and host of immune signals that promote either rejection or tolerance. We now know that EV/exosomes are critical for the tremendous amplification of immunogenicity leading to acute allograft rejection. Other work suggests that EV/exosomes may also promote tolerance. The session will go into the mechanisms of tolerance induced by EV/exosomes from a) DC or DCreg, b) T cells or Treg, and c) B cells or Bregs. The mediators of tolerance carried by these EV/exosomes include:
1) miRNA, inducing PD-L1 in DC;
2) extracellular ATPase/ADPase [CD39/CD73],
3) CD81-bound exosomal IL35.
The audience will hear updates on recent progress in this field, and how the interplay of EV/exosomes from donor organ and recipient can promote "infectious" tolerance both locally and systemically.
